Things to think about

  • Our pupils and staff contribute to identifying their own next steps and learning goals through dialogue based on feedback and evidence of learning.
  • We encourage pupils to plan and record next steps in learning through the personal learning planning process, for example future goals are agreed with pupils and recorded in useful ways, such as in diaries, learning logs, comment record, progress file, etc.
  • We provide regular opportunities for pupils and staff to develop the habit of thinking about their own learning.

Questions to ask

  • To what extent do we help pupils and staff to think about and identify their learning needs?
  • To what extent do we help our pupils to become confident individuals by setting next steps or learning goals through (for example) dialogue based on feedback and evidence of learning?
  • To what extent do we provide opportunities for our pupils and staff to reflect on their own learning?
