Assessment is for Learning

2007 survey of science, science literacy and core skills

The 2007 SSA assessed science, science literacy and core skills. The survey took place between April and June 2007.

The survey aimed to find out what pupils in P3, P5, P7 and S2 know and can do in science in terms of knowledge and understanding, science literacy (including elements of communication and numeracy in a science context), and practical investigative skills. It also assessed the core skills of using ICT, problem solving and working with others.

The survey was designed to report on pupils’ overall performance at both the national and local authority levels. It did not report separately on either schools or individual pupils.

The SSA is a sample survey: it uses only a sample of schools and pupils across Scotland instead of assessing every pupil in every school.

The 2007 SSA has now been completed. The results have been published by the Scottish Government.
