National Assessments are assessment materials designed to be used by teachers in Scottish schools to confirm their judgements about pupils' levels of attainment in English language (reading and writing) and mathematics 5-14.

National Assessments are based on the attainment targets and levels set out in the relevant 5-14 National Guidelines, and are available at each of levels A to F in reading, writing and mathematics.
National Assessments are available for schools to download from the National Assessments 5-14 Bank, where additional information can also be found including examples of assessments in reading, writing, and mathematics. National Assessments are also now available in Gaelic. As in English, they can be used by teachers to confirm their judgements about pupils' levels of attainment in the medium of Gaelic for Reading, Writing and Mathematics.These replace the Gaelic-medium National Tests, which were discontinued in January 2007.
National Assessments are part of the national assessment system. They are summative and their use is internal to the school. They are part of the assessment OF learning strand of AifL – Assessment is for Learning, and sit alongside teachers' judgements and local moderation as ways of understanding and sharing standards.
