Welcome to the Assessment is for Learning Email Update. This update service keeps you informed of news and additions to the website.
May we also take this opportunity to wish you a happy and prosperous New Year, and we look forward to your continued commitment to the AifL programme in 2008 and beyond.
All ASG projects for 2007-8 are well under way. Feedback on action plans should now be with the lead contacts. In early 2008, development officers from Learning and Teaching Scotland will offer support primarily to the authorities where new ASGs are coming on board the programme for the first time. Further information and guidance for ASGs is available in the ASGs resource area.
Saturday 24 November saw the first AifL fringe event, which was held at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow. The purpose of this event was to give our more experienced members an opportunity to extend and reflect on their learning. The key aim of the day was to develop the links between AifL and Curriculum for Excellence, as well as to provide an update on Glow.
Because of its success, a similar fringe event has been organised for March 2008 in Edinburgh (see below).

Many people have already taken the opportunity to download Carolyn Hutchinson and Myra Young’s presentation and reflective questions from the Scottish Learning Festival in 2007. These have been made available on the AifL Community page for all those who, whatever their role in education, make use of assessment information as feedback for improvement.
Carolyn would especially welcome your responses to the reflective questions. Please send or email your responses as directed on the web page.
The report of the 2006 Social Subjects Enquiry Skills and Core Skills survey was published in August 2007. Links to short and detailed versions of the report are available on the SSA 2006 page.
A summary of this article has been added to the site, in which the development of assessment in Scotland is discussed.
This is a virtual space where you can meet, exchange ideas and thoughts and share practice with colleagues. A downloadable quick start guide to using the forum can be found on the discussion forum index page.
The new Schools of Ambition website has now been published. Read about the schools that have taken part in the programme and access examples of sharing practice and useful resources. Regular updates on Curriculum for Excellence (including the draft outcomes as they are released) are also available.
On 1 and 2 November, a group of 28 Norwegian teachers from Nordvtet School, Oslo, arrived in Glasgow on an educational visit. The AifL team provided a comprehensive programme for the group involving school/classroom visits and an informative seminar outlining current developments in AifL and Curriculum for Excellence. A party from the Norwegian Directorate visited a month later and heard about the role of the universities in AifL, developments in Curriculum for Excellence and the change model adopted by AifL.
