Curriculum for Excellence: Making it happen

Following the recent publication of the experiences and outcomes, Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS) is encouraging education professionals across Scotland to make use of the resources available on the dedicated Curriculum for Excellence website.

Curriculum for Excellence aims to achieve a transformation in education in Scotland by providing a coherent, more flexible and enriched curriculum for all children aged 3–18. The curriculum includes the totality of experiences, which are planned for children and young people through their education wherever they are being educated.

An essential component of Curriculum for Excellence, the experiences and outcomes apply wherever learning is planned – recognising the importance of the quality and nature of the learning experience, and what is to be achieved. Taken as a whole, the experiences and outcomes embody the attributes and capabilities of the four capacities. They signpost progression in learning, setting standards that will equip young people to meet the new challenges that the 21st century presents.

Used in conjunction with the printed version of the experiences and outcomes, which was issued to all practitioners in May 2009, the Curriculum for Excellence website is the only source of essential additional support for staff. The website was developed following extensive testing with educational practitioners. It is colour coded and clearly signposted for ease of navigation, taking users on a logical journey through the entire curriculum framework.
