Refining your search activity

In this exercise we will use the Google search engine, www.google.co.uk.

1. Open up your browser.
2. Enter www.google.co.uk into the address box and press the Return key.
3. Enter the key words for your search in the search window.
4. Click the Google search button.
5. Use the scroll bar on the right-hand side of the window to see all the pages that have been listed.
6. If you find a page that interests you, click on the link.

If you do not get the information you want, click Back in the menu bar to return to the Google window again.

This time try different key words or start a new search.

When you have finished, close the browser window.

Don't worry if you did not have a great deal of success on your first try at key word searches. It takes a while to learn to pick good key words. Sharing ideas on key words with friends or your tutor might help.
