What is a website?

The first page of a website is called the home page. The home page will contain links to other pages on the site. The pages are put together like an upside down tree. Play the animation to see how websites are organised.

Each page on a website has its own web address. You can often find the web address of an organisation's home page at the bottom of its adverts. However, you do not need to start at the home page of a website. You can go directly to the page you want to read if you know its web address.
