Using an IT System

An IT system is a tool to help you do your work. It has two main parts - hardware and software.

The hardware is the actual equipment, and usually sits on a desk or bench.

The software is all the programs that you use. Any files that you save are also software. These are usually stored on a hard disk or CD, and loaded into the computer's memory when they are needed.

Let's look in more detail at the hardware you will use.

The processor normally sits underneath the monitor, as shown in the picture below, but can also be a tower placed beside the monitor:
