Understanding the desktop

What you see on the screen is called the desktop.

Just as in real life, not all desktops look the same. It depends on who set them up. However, the two main parts are always there in some form:

1. the icons, little pictures that are shortcuts to the software
2. the task bar, which lies along the bottom of the screen.
