Creating a folder

You already know what a folder icon looks like. Play the animation to see how to create a new one.

This is an activity to try on your computer

When naming a folder, here are some rules to follow:

Make a note of the name that you will give your folder.

You are going to create a new folder icon and name it. You will save all your work to this folder.

Follow each of these steps carefully.

If you have a problem, just close the My Documents window and go back to the first step again.

  1. Double-click on the My Documents icon. You will see a lot of folders in this window.
  2. Go to the menu bar at the top and click on File. A drop-down menu will appear.
  3. Move the pointer to highlight New. A menu will appear on the right.
  4. Move the pointer across to highlight Folder.
  5. Click the mouse button. The menus will disappear and a new folder will flash at the bottom of the My Documents window.
  6. Use the keyboard to give the new folder the name you have chosen.
  7. Close the My Documents window.

You now have a folder for your work on the computer's hard disk.
