Using formulas

A formula is an equation that analyses data on a worksheet. Formulas are used to perform calculations such as addition or multiplication. They are also used to compare or combine values.

For example, to add the value of cell C6 and F4 the formula would be =(C6+F4).

There are some formulas already programmed into Excel for you. These are called functions. They can be used to carry out commonly used calculations such as financial, logical or statistical calculations.

One of the most commonly used functions is the Autosum   . This is used to add up a list of figures.
