Formatting a disk

Formatting a disk means making it ready to receive data. It does this by writing Tracks & Sectors on the disk to enable it to store data. New disks come ready formatted but used disks may need to be formatted for your computer.

This is also a quick way to remove all data from a disk. With that in mind, make sure you do not format a disk with anything you want to keep on it. There is no way to get data back after you do this.
