Summary: good writing skills

So far we’ve looked at the skills required to be a good writer. We’ve talked about:

  • Taking account of the reader’s needs
  • Writing so that it’s easy for the intended reader to understand
  • Writing in a way that is appropriately formal
  • Using good spelling, punctuation and syntax
  • Presenting your analysis
  • Linking and signposting so your reader can follow your line of thought.

The remainder of this Study Section talks to you about essay writing, report writing and writing a portfolio of thematically linked pieces.
