What else you need to know: Analysing, linking and signposting In Communication (Intermediate 2), you are asked to delineate (outline) the points that your communication presents. In Communication (Higher), you are asked to link major and minor points in ways that assist the clarity and impact of the writing. This means that you need to think carefully about the examples you use, and you need to think about the way in which you are going to present your material. If you think carefully about the points you want to make, you should be able to present them in order and with good supporting material to achieve your purpose. If you try to make too many points at once, their impact can be reduced, because your reader is given too much information at one time. Similarly, your writing should be signposted well, so that the reader is never in any doubt about where your report or essay is going next.
