Dalmarnock Youth Project - FOOTBALL CRAZY

Appropriate age: Upper primary / secondary

Produced by:
Dalmarnock Youth Project

Funded by:
Glasgow City Council, Children in Need

Available from:
Dalmarnock Youth Project

Length:
Approximately 60 minutes

Type:
Video and Pack with Worksheets

The video is a Young Persons Social Drama project, which arose from a local history project. Rather than the focus of the video being the production itself, it is used to document the progress of the drama project; through this it raises a variety of issues and demonstrates some techniques for tackling them.

A full copy of the project structure and the scripts for the drama pieces are available.

Bear, in mind that it is not a glossy video (much more 'home video') but it is worth persevering with.

Interviews:

  1. Interviews with Lawrence McIntyre (Rangers) and David Watt (Celtic).
  2. Interviews with politicians - Frank McAveety MSP and Jim Byrne, prospective MP for the SNP.
  3. Interviews with Harry Dunlop from St Mungo's Museum and George Best from Glasgow East End News.
  4. Interview with Betty Springfield Shaw - the script is available.
  5. Interview with Isobel Smyth and Cara Henderson.

Young People's evaluation: the video asks each participant what they liked, etc. and asks if they have changed their views about sectarianism.

There are additional activities in the pack, for instance, a Court of Justice activity.

This is a rather long video and probably more useful to watch to see the process rather than as a learning aid, however the interview sections could be used productively to stimulate discussion especially as they are not specifically Glasgow focused.
