The ideas below are taken from the work of David Gray, RME teacher with Grange Academy, Kilmarnock.
Why was the course developed?
David Gray developed a course to raise pupils' awareness of the issues of sectarian and religious intolerance. He did so as a response to the former First Minister's speech against religious intolerance and the work of the anti-sectarian organisation Nil by Mouth.
What age group is the course for?
The course David Gray developed was taught to S2 pupils. However all or aspects of the course could be used from upper primary onwards.
Is this course usable in denominational and non-denominational schools?
While the course was designed for use within RME for S2, the course may also be used in a PSE course. There are differences between the 5-14 RME guidelines and the Catholic 5-14 documents particularly within the strands of Personal Search. Denominational schools may find aspects of the course useful for their RME programme but may also find the course of more relevance within a PSE programme.
