Use with children aged 3–6.

Learning Points:

  • People who have different religious beliefs do things that are different, e.g. some people go to a church, others to a mosque
  • We are all different but we also have similarities
  • It's okay to be different
  • To treat people equally despite differences

Allow the children to talk about the clip – what did they see? What was the message?

Also use this scenario to explore the commonalities that exist between young people who have different faiths:

  • What did Suzi and Dilip both enjoy?
  • What do Suzi and Dilip have in common? (They go to the same school, they both have a religious faith etc.)
  • What does it feel like to be excluded? What does it feel like to be treated equally?

The scenario can be used as a prompt to allow the children to explore Christianity and Islam:

  • What faith do you think Dilip has?
  • What faith do you think Suzi has?
  • What do you know about these religions?
  • If animations are used with older pupils, e.g. P3 upwards, the animations could be used to enable pupils to research these religions, e.g. as part of RME class.

Purposes of the curriculum 3-18

Using this scenario can contribute toward young people becoming:

  • confident individuals with self respect and able to develop and communicate their own beliefs and view of the world
  • responsible citizens with respect for others and able to understand different beliefs and cultures
