Personal and Social Development (PSD) - Developing a whole school approach
PSD offers opportunities for schools to nurture the ability of children to make informed choices and responsible decisions from an early age.

Many of the purposes of A Curriculum for Excellence can be explored and discussed. Once informed, children and young people can become actively engaged with these purposes and decide themselves to develop the skills and insights needed to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.

The ideas within these sample activity plans are designed to provide ideas on how through a whole school approach from P1-P7, we can start introducing ideas of equality and fairness, as well as prejudice and discrimination.

From P1-4, the focus is more on learning about difference, making choices, doing the right thing, and seeing things from different points of view.

From P5-7, the focus is more explicitly on sectarianism and religious intolerance.

Many teachers have lots of ideas about how to raise issues. These activity plans are only a starter to focus on sectarianism and religious intolerance. Please be flexible with the plans, add your own games, stories or forma - amend for local relevance.
