Schools' ICT Programme

Scottish Learning Festival

The Scottish Learning Festival is an annual, national event held for two days in late September.

It hosts a combination of keynote presentations, spotlight sessions, seminars and an exhibition area, providing delegates with opportunities for professional development, sharing skills and knowledge, and investigating and experimenting with new technologies.

Its aimed at headteachers, senior management, policy makers, librarians and teaching practitioners in early years, primary, secondary, further and special education establishments. Community education learners and practitioners are also catered for.

The Festival is about teaching and learning and offers a number of opportunities to enhance the education profession by providing:

  • inspiration and new ideas
  • an opportunity to network with peers
  • a range of options to enhance the learning and teaching experience for all.

In addition, it offers teachers practical advice and ideas about effective use of ICT in their classrooms to improve the quality of learning and teaching.

Thanks to funding from the Scottish Executive, the Festival is free to attend. The Festival is also sponsored by Dell Corporation Ltd, the Educational Institute of Scotland and the General Teaching Council for Scotland.

The team

Learning and Teaching Scotland organises the Scottish Learning Festival in partnership with Emap Education, setting up all the aspects of the event.

The practical organisation and administration is currently outsourced although the approval for final decisions remains with LTS.

LTS produces the Scottish Learning Festival website, which offers information about the programme, the speakers, the online booking service, year-round updates and downloads of video and audio recordings of presentations.

Many LTS staff also work at the Festival during the two days on a variety of tasks to help the event run smoothly.
