LTS software: The Serf's Quest: Life in a Medieval Burgh

This Learning and Teaching Scotland CD-ROM, 'The Serf's Quest', has been created using 3-D game technologies. A role-playing game, it enables children to explore life in a fourteenth-century Scottish burgh through playing the part of a young runaway serf.

The user's quest will take them away from a life of miserable serfdom to the burgh where, if they can survive for a year and a day, they will win their freedom.

By controlling the serf's movements through the 3-D medieval burgh, children will be able to talk to period characters and learn about aspects of medieval life, such as the medieval market place, medieval buildings, inside a medieval house, preparing wool, archery and stories about the Wars of Independence. Each child or group is assigned a password enabling them to resume the game from where they left off each time they log on. .
