Our production standards and specifications

Publishing - online

Learning and Teaching Scotland produces publications for the education community. We produce websites, books, learning packs, curriculum guidelines, newsletters, consultation documents, reports, CD-ROMs and promotional items.

LTS aims to publish relevant, concise, well-structured and clearly presented information. The information on this page provides guidance on how to achieve this when developing online materials for LTS.

Publishing Guidelines

The Learning and Teaching Scotland website Web Standards and Guidelines explains the standards, specifications and procedures we expect companies to adhere to when producing online resources for LTS.

The website has information about:

  • Accessibilty
  • Usability
  • Writing and style
  • Copyright and permissions
  • Layout and design
  • Multimedia
  • Metadata
  • Managing content
  • Technical development

We aim to ensure that the development of our online resources follow internationally accepted specifications and standards so that they are consistent in type and style and their viability, integrity and portability are maximised.

LTS will consult with relevant organisations, user groups and multimedia content developers in establishing, implementing and reviewing our standards. This will involve a proactive review and, as appropriate, evolution of the standards to reflect knowledge and practice derived from development, deployment and use of content in Glow.

Please consult the Web Standards and Guidelines website when formulating bids for tenders and when producing online resources for LTS.
