Our production standards and specifications

Learning and Teaching Scotland is committed to producing websites and web resources that can be accessed by all users and we have published a standard Accessibility Statement for the LTS Online Service.

All pages produced on the LTS Online Service should conform to the AA standard of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines produced by the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Accessible features on the LTS Online Service

  • Standard layout and navigation structure across the Online Service
  • Alternative textual descriptions for images
  • Capacity for users to resize the text using the resize option in their browser
  • Capacity for users to skip directly to the content area of the page
  • Headings and paragraphs on pages which aid navigation with alternative browsers
  • Text for links that make sense when read out of context
  • 'Breadcrumb' trail to help with navigation within a section of the site
  • Access keys to jump to specific areas of the websites
  • Sitemaps which provide an overview of the websites' structure and organisation
  • Cascading style sheets (CSS) are used for visual layout and presentation
  • Relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified 'text size' option in visual browsers
  • Content which can be still be read even if your browser or browsing device does not support style sheets at all.

Technical compliance

We strive to ensure that the LTS Online Service pages meet industry standards:

  • Pages are Bobby AA approved, complying with all priority 1 and 2 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. 
  • Pages validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional. 
  • Stylesheets on this site validate as CSS.
