Answers to common questions

What is Learning and Teaching Scotland?

Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS) is a national public body sponsored by the Scottish Government.

The Who we are section explains about the organisation's structure and development.

What work does LTS do?

Our remit covers all matters relating to the curriculum in the pre-school, primary and secondary education sectors in Scotland. LTS advises the Scottish Government on any aspect of the learning experiences of children and young people up to the age of 18, and on any issue that may have an effect on those learning experiences. We provide guidance and support on the curriculum for schools, local education authorities and others.

Our remit also highlights the importance of the effective use of information and communications technology (ICT) in education, learning and community development.

You can see our remit here:

Learning and Teaching Scotland has five programmes of work:

  • Building Capacity

  • Curriculum and Assesssment

  • Excellence for All

  • Glow

  • Information and Communications Technology

The programmes provide a coherent leadership and management structure for the various projects LTS is working on and help to make connections between projects with complementary aims and objectives.

There is more information about our work in the 'What we do' section.
