About LTS

Education Improvement Directorate

The Education Improvement Directorate provides education advice, support and guidance at a national level to the Scottish Government and other national organisations in Scottish education, and at a local level to local authority education departments. It also directs educational research and disseminates the findings.

The Directorate focuses on three main services for Scottish education:

Area Advisers

The Area Advisers support local education authorities in improving the quality of education, within the national improvement framework.

Knowledge Management

The Knowledge Management team leads and manages the development of LTS's knowledge management system.

The team focuses on LTS's work in:

  • research, evaluation and statistical information
  • analysis and dissemination of national and international research
  • statistical analysis to inform decisions, support development of policy and contribute to planning.

There's more information in the Research section of the website.

Professional Advisers

The Professional Advisers team consists of Carolyn Hutchison and Michele Donohoe.

They are responsible for liaising with all stakeholders in developing well-informed educational advice for Learning and Teaching Scotland managers. The Professional Adviser team focuses on LTS's work in collaborating with partnership organisations and undertaking investigative activities on specific educational topics.
