Research and intelligence gathering are important activities for Learning and Teaching Scotland, as they make sure that our work is informed by the best available educational evidence.Through using research and intelligence, LTS ensures that it is able to better fulfil its core remit of providing advice to Ministers, reviewing the curriculum, developing assessment to support learning and providing national guidance and advice to the education system on the use of ICT to support learning and teaching.
The LTS research and innovation team carry out a wide range of activities.
- Commissioning research or evaluation projects aligned to key priorities from external organisations.
- Gathering intelligence in relation to LTS priorities, including curriculum, assessment, and the use of ICT.
- Supporting the development of a learning culture within LTS by working with staff to make better use of research evidence and intelligence.
- Facilitating knowledge transfer activities to communicate our work to partners and the education community, using a range of channels.
The research and innovation team also produce a bi-monthly digest Research Round-Up, which collates and summarises national and international educational research and statistical reports.
