At present, Maureen is PT Modern Languages in Holyrood Secondary, Glasgow, but is just about to take up post as Adviser in Modern Languages for Glasgow City Council.
Maureen is interested in exploring ways of accessing up-to-date technology to motivate pupils and provide a more attractive learning environment, and also of motivating staff and providing a more functional and manageable communications media.
Ewan McIntosh is currently Development Officer for the Modern Foreign Languages Environment (MFLE), a pilot project aimed at supporting MFL educators in Scotland in their continuing professional development.
As a classroom teacher at Musselburgh Grammar School, East Lothian, Ewan helped launch the first open-comment school blogs in the UK and the first schools podcast in Europe. This work was shortlisted for a New Statesman New Media Award and won the European Award for Languages, 2005.
John's professional life began with zoo-keeping, and an interest in conservation and research. He then trained for the PGCE and has been a primary class teacher for 14 years. During this time, he developed a parallel interest in ICT, sparked by HyperCard. This deepened and led to working on and creating learning resources with HyperCard, SuperCard and Flash. For some time, John has worked with children producing digital content, and this has involved digital video, video conferencing, blogging and podcasting projects.
Vivian is a teacher of French and German who has been seconded to her present post as Staff Tutor for four years. Her remit includes working with Partners in Excellence as well as work with MLPS. Vivian's main interest at present is using ICT to enhance learning and teaching of modern languages.
Kay has worked as a Languages Support Officer at East Ayrshire Council for three years. She taught French and German for 13 years in Ayrshire, completed an ATQ in primary teaching and subsequently worked as MLPS tutor in the 27-day programme. Kay's special areas of interest are early language learning and ICT - she loves gadgets and her Mac in particular! She's also been involved in a Socrates Lingua project on Staging Early Foreign Language Learning (for 6–10 year olds) and works with senior pupils within the Partners in Excellence project.
