An interesting application of the Myst software involved the P7 children acting as peer tutors in relation to helping P2 children write a piece about Myst. The P2 children were taken on a journey through the initial screens of Myst and as they described what they saw the P7 children helped them by scribing their stories. The P2 children were encouraged to be as descriptive as they could and follow-up lessons involved the P7 children offering formative feedback about what they had just heard.
Here we see the class teacher walking through the first few scenes that introduce Myst III Exile. As the P2 children watch this they are guided by the teacher, who asks them questions about what they can see, asks them to describe what they see as best they can, and asks how they are feeling as they imagine themselves in the world.
The class teacher talks about the positive impact that this activity had on the P7 and the P2 children. The P7 children also talk about what they did and how they helped the younger children with their writing.
One P2 girl reads out her story, which was inspired by her journey through the first few minutes of Myst III Exile. The P7 children who had helped to scribe the younger children’s stories then give formative feedback.
One P2 boy reads out his story, which was inspired by his journey through the first few minutes of Myst III Exile. The P7 children who had helped to scribe the younger children’s stories then give formative feedback.
