A great resource for accessing images, movies and information on world species

ARKive has brought together resources from all over the world into one place to help build environmental awareness. Anyone can use the website to access information and educational materials.

The website is very easy to navigate and there is a keyword search to help you find the information you require. You can also create your own archive in a scrapbook in preparation for your lesson or for pupils creating presentations for topic work.

ARKive's relation to A Curriculum for Excellence

Through the use of this website, pupils as successful learners can access information on species from all over the world and can develop their environmental awareness of the issues that surround them. ARKive challenges then to look at the world in a different way and helps them to communicate their findings as confident individuals by developing their knowledge and understanding of their environment.

By using the information provided, pupils can find out about the environmental issues and projects that are going on around the world and look at how they can participate as effective contributors.

Planet ARKive

Planet ARKive is aimed at children aged 7-11. It is bright and colourful and easy to use. Children can find information in the fact files, select information by topic, investigate habitats, play a game and find out what they can do to help preserve the environment and the species that live in it.

The games are fun and a good way to introduce a topic. They can be used as whole class teaching on an interactive whiteboard or for group activities.
