Staff development

As with any new initiative, the early intervention programme has sparked off a huge variety of staff development opportunities. These have been aimed at all sectors of the education community involved in the process of early education: teachers, managers, tutors, nursery nurses, classroom assistants and parents.

A selection of these staff development opportunities is given below and samples of some of the material used are also included.

Staff development packages

There are a number of comprehensive staff development packages, using different formats, for schools to use internally or for staff development assisted by a tutor.

Glasgow City Council education department has produced a package comprising two booklets and a video film for staff. The package contains one booklet of activities and discussions - some of which are based on the video - and another booklet 'Developing Literacy in the Early Stages' giving background material.
