This is an exciting time for anyone involved in physical education and sport.

After a long spell in educational wilderness physical education is at last on everyone's agenda. In recent news we have seen the announcement of: a 'Fitness Tsar', the Physical Education Task Force, the PE Review group, the TOPs programme from the Youth Sport Trust, Health Promoting Schools and the Active Schools programme, to name but a few.

Schools have an important part to play in getting children 'active'.

But the demise of physical education specialists in many authorities has left some teachers struggling to cope with teaching PE and fitting it into a crowded curriculum.
