Planning

In schools where there is a quality physical education programme being run there is always a strong commitment from the head teacher. There is an understanding that physical education is important not just for the health and finess of the children but is beneficial to learning within the classroom and that physical education can do a lot to boost the school ethos and raise self-esteem amongst pupils.

Elsie Tyson, head teacher of Bankhead Primary, talks about the time allocation for PE in her school, the benefits of PE and the role of the subject specialist in planning for PE and working with the classroom teachers.
