In this video you will see three P2 teachers with their classes, each working on a different strategy. In the High School of Glasgow Junior School, Lorna Lambie is asking her class to ‘Make and continue patterns’.
Lynne Milroy at Balfron Primary School is working at the introductory stages of ‘Making an organised list’. At the P2 stage there is little appreciation of the need to be organised and the pupils are concentrating on finding as many different combinations as they can.
Dorothy Duncan in Invergowrie Primary School is working on the strategy of ‘Elimination’, where the pupils have to eliminate those robots that do not meet the stated criteria.
Can you think of another one or two contexts in which each of these strategies might be addressed at the P2 stage?
Which other strategies do you feel are appropriate for infants?
