In this section we look at how schools have devised progressive and structured whole-school plans to develop problem solving strategies from levels A to E. Some schools also intend to include open-ended enquiries in these plans.
The whole-school plans provide a framework within which individual teachers can formulate their own yearly plans. They also let teachers see what has been taught at earlier stages and what strategies and experiences the pupils will meet in subsequent stages or levels.
In this video, Kathleen Blacklaw, headteacher of Bishopmill Primary School, Karen Waugh, headteacher of the High School of Glasgow Junior School and Liz Gavin, deputy headteacher of Capshard Primary School, describe their plans.
You will notice that each plan is unique to the school and has been devised in discussion with the teachers.
What is your opinion of the nature and structure of these plans?
Are models such as this helpful to schools which may not yet have such plans?
Would you prefer a local council produced plan, which all schools should use?
