Karen Dewar studied at Northern College, Dundee, and has been teaching for 10 years - all of them at Grange Primary. She is currently teaching a P2 class.
Karen works with a small group using Compare Bears to look at patterns. She makes a repeating pattern and asks the pupils what will come next and where the pattern repeats. Then she asks the pupils to make their own patterns with the bears.
Karen asks one pupil to close his eyes and takes away one of the bears he has used in his pattern. She closes the gap in the line of bears and the boy has to identify which bear is missing.
Finally the pupils work on cards that she hands out. They have to make a pattern using the bears to match the pattern on the card. Then they must continue the pattern by drawing more bears on the card in the correct order.
