Section 1

RATIONALE

Christian Faith

God reveals himself to the human family through Jesus Christ. This revelation is addressed to people, not only as individuals, but as members of a community. The community responds in faith to this invitation to a personal relationship with God, by following the example and teaching of Jesus Christ and by committing itself to the proclamation of the Good News.

And he said to them,
"Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation."

Mark 16:15

Church and Faith

Faith, a gift from God, requires nurturing and development. Parents introduce their children into the faith community of the Church and are "the first and best teachers of their children in the ways of faith''. The Church, in continuing the faith formation of its young people, relies on the close co-operation of home, school and parish.

The Catholic School : A Community of Faith

The Catholic School shares with home and parish the responsibility of communicating the message of Jesus Christ. Acknowledgement of this responsibility in every aspect of school life identifies the mission of the Catholic school as one which:

  • proclaims the Gospel message and invites all to respond in a positive way;

  • integrates the faith and the values of Christ with daily living;

  • celebrates its shared faith through prayer and sacrament;

  • undertakes learning and teaching, to make all aware of the nature of their faith;

  • promotes a community of faith for the mutual benefit of its members

The Catholic school is charged with sharing the Christian vision in a manner which upholds the dignity of the individual and respects the living experience of all the members of its community.
