Dear Sir
GUIDELINES ON GAELIC 5-14
This Circular conveys to education authorities and schools
guidance from the Secretary of State on the teaching of
Gaelic to pupils aged 5-14. In preparing the guidance account
has been taken of the responses received to SOED Working
Paper Number 12: Gaelic, which was issued in December 1992.
The Secretary of State is grateful to all who responded
to the invitation to comment contained hi that Working Paper.
The guidance is reproduced in the Gaelic language itself
in accordance with an undertaking given when the Working
Paper was issued.
The Secretary of State believes that the guidance now issued
provides a coherent and progressive scheme for teaching
of and teaching in Gaelic. He commends the guidelines and
invites education authorities and schools to use them as
the basis of their Gaelic Education Programme from the current
session 1993/94.
Any enquiries about the circular should be made to Mr M
G Wright (Telephone 031-244 4433) at the above address.
Yours faithfully
