Celebrations, festivals, ceremonies and customs


• Understand the significance for Christians of the major seasons of the Christian year and be able to relate them to Christian beliefs, eg incarnation, salvation, Holy Spirit;
• be able to use in writing and discussion terms such as ceremony, ritual, rites of passage, symbol, sacrament;
• be able to discuss issues such as sincerity and social convention in the observance of ceremonies.



• Demonstrate research skills through an investigation of Christian baptism, funeral practices or festivals and the key Christian beliefs associated with these.

Sacred writings, stories and key figures


• Show some knowledge and understanding of the different genres of literature in the Bible;
• be aware of different translations and the need for interpretation;
• be able to discuss issues such as the creation, miracles, resurrection, at a simple level but in response to their own questions and opinions.


Be able to explain the significance for Christians of key passages from some of the different genres of literature in the Bible;
• be aware of the context in which some passages were written through a study of authors or key figures;
• show some understanding of different approaches to the interpretation of the Bible and be able to explain these in relation to selection passages
.
