Investigating and experimenting
|
Improvise and experiment with movement, speech,
space, physical objects and sound, showing imagination and
inventiveness appropriate to age and stage of development.
As they progress through the levels, pupils should show
increasing understanding and control of the media and processes
of drama.
|
At all Levels A-F pupils should enjoy opportunities to improvise
and experiment with all the media of drama movement,
speech, space, physical objects and sound within
a secure drama environment; sometimes devising their own
contexts and situations and sometimes starting with those
provided by the teacher or others. Pupils should be encouraged
to engage imaginatively in increasingly complex drama situations
and through interaction with others to develop knowledge
and understanding of themselves, others, the world around
them and the drama process itself.

|
Use gesture, movement and mime appropriately
in a range of contexts, showing sensitivity and flexibility
to changing situations within the drama activity.
|
Use gesture, facial expression, different
types of movement and mime effectively and appropriately
to portray character in a range of contexts, showing sensitivity
and flexibility to changing situations within the drama
activity;
show increased awareness of ways in which
space can be used creatively and inventively;
show increased awareness of audience.
|
At this stage a wider, more demanding range of activities
in movement and mime should be provided, with emphasis being
placed on the pupils ability to use space creatively
and inventively. Opportunities should be given for pupils
to develop further and to consolidate previously learned
skills in movement, e.g. concentration, balance, flexibility,
timing, use of space, use of physical expression and of
facial expression. Further emphasis should be placed
on character portrayal through the use of gesture and movement.
Pupils ability to take account of the needs of the
audience should continue to be developed.
