Observing, reflecting, describing and responding
|
Find out about an artist or designer and their
work by collating materials and information from several
sources, e.g. art reference books, postcards or
computer database;
make one or two personal statements about
their own and an artist or designers work, showing
an understanding of the use of the visual elements to support
an opinion;
evaluate their own work, showing understanding
of a design process, indicating modifications where appropriate.
|
Show some understanding about how to conduct
an investigation and collate relevant information from first
hand sources (paintings, sculptures, etc.) and books, audio-visual
sources, CD-ROM, video tapes, etc;
communicate and justify some personal opinions
about the work of artists and designers, showing an appreciation
of the ways in which they materials, media, visual elements
and visual concepts;
use simple criteria for assessing and evaluating
their own expressive and design work;
use their findings when making appropriate
plans for improving their work.

Activities should provide opportunities for reflecting and
reporting personal reactions to comment, work and processes,
using a range of technology and styles, e.g. digital
communication, photography, reportage, poetic language,
etc.
Pupils should increase their understanding and appreciation
of the technical processes of the past, of other cultures,
and of those required for the future. This can be supported
by research, viewing electronic and printed media, practical
experiments and demonstration.
The increasing use of art and design terminology in discussion
of practical work should allow expression of deeper understanding
of the works of others.
Pupils should be encouraged to select, reflect on and evaluate
this material, and to make use of it in developing their
own work.
