Modern Languages

Through language pupils receive much of their knowledge and develop and express their own personal understandings. Language is an integral part of their lives. Language learning, therefore, should enhance their ability to communicate, and contribute to the development of both the interpersonal skills and the disposition to do so. The framework for 5-14 Modern Languages provides a manageable means of organising what pupils should know and be able to do as a result of their learning in modern languages. There are four attainment outcomes within the framework: 'listening', 'speaking', 'reading' and 'writing'.
